This terrible experience affected little Maya emotionally and condemned her to eternal silence. The only person she talked to was her brother and best friend, Bailey. After this unpleasant incident, they were both sent back to Stamps, where Maya recovers her voice after several years thanks to Mrs. Flowers who introduces her to a fascinating world of great authors and their powerful language. She is an intelligent, quiet, and motivated girl, but her social and economic status makes her feel out of place everywhere she goes. She only trusts her brother because he is the only one that can understand her. However, slowly Maya becomes aware of the racial prejudice and learns how to deal with it without the protection of her grandmother or Bailey. They go back with their mother to California once again due to her grandmothers coming of age and Uncle Willies unstable physical condition. When her mother marries Mr. Clidell not long after their arrival, Maya finds in him the first image of the father she ever knew. The family moves to San Francisco, where Maya spends the rest of her teenage years. Her doubts concerning her sexuality leads her to her pregnancy during her senior year of high school. Even though her journey was painful and harsh, all these experiences helped her mold the once self-hating, insecure little girl, into the confident, strong, and mature woman at the young age of sixteen. Even though she was pregnant, she did not tell anybody and persevered to complete high school and work toward a productive future. Growing up and surviving in this complex world can be hard, that is why learning about life and accepting oneself is a journey that all people make throughout their lives. It is evident that Angelou did not have an easy childhood, but even though life brings her many hardships, she learns everyday, especially from her grandmother, how to overcome them. These hardships include not only racism and prejudice, but also sexual molestation, poverty, and ignorance. I would say that the divorce of her parents was something positive in her life because it led her to her grandmother, who helped her spread the seeds and become the woman she is today. It is evident that if Maya and Bailey had stayed with either their mother or father, they would end up being useless people, stealing, consuming drugs, selling their body to strangers, or even killing. Fortunately, they did not lower themselves to that point thanks to Momma. How do I know this? Well, first lets take a look at her parents. Her mother is an irresponsible woman who likes to live life the best way she can. Her inexperience of being a mother takes away her right of being called like one. In addition, her family is involved in some sort of mafia. Mayas father is another irresponsible and selfish guy, whose girlfriend is jealous of her and stabs her with a knife! No wonder her parents got divorced and still have an unstable relationship through all those years. In the other hand, while in Sta mps, she learns many things from the close-tied community she lived in and her grandmother, and admires the perseverance and hope with which her neighbors face everyday. Although Maya disliked her grandmothers (Momma) strictness, she loved and respected her for that at the same time. Like everyone else, Momma was subject to white prejudice as well, however the image Maya had of her was like that of an invincible woman that could do anything and would always protect her. But throughout the years, Maya managed to stay above the level of those ignorant white people and maintain her dignity up high. Throughout her life Angelou thinks deeply about racism, religion, and other subjects that we sometimes take for granted. Personally, I was amazed at how much detail she went into and even though I couldnt see her expressions when telling the story, I could somehow feel her passion through every word in this account. I also admired the openness in her words, mainly because she talks about many issues that others would not normally discuss. Told from her point of view, the book shows the ignorance and prejudice of both black and white people during that time. As I read the book, I would laugh, be angry, or moved, but one thing for sure is that it made me think about the world we live in and that we are responsible of what we have today. A good example for this would be the status of black people today compared to not even a hundred years from now. They have what they have because they fought for it and their long and harsh journey deserve to be awarded. Maya Angelou probably chose the title I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, which is very convenient for this opening story of her life, because it talks about the struggles of life and how perseverance and hope can help you overcome them and move forward. My interpretation of the title is that the Bird refers to Angelous people in general, and it is Caged in a horrible life of racial discrimination and prejudice, even to this day. However, as Angelou grows up and experiences the world around her, she learns why the bird, between those bars of injustice, sings; and it sings because despite the struggle that seems to follow her people everywhere, they still have hope and are proud of being a member of the wonderful, beautiful Negro race. One thing Ive realized after reading this book is that just because an African American woman wrote this book doesnt mean it is about SLAVERY and longing to be FREE, but it can also be a lesson about LIFE and give you another perspective of viewing it. The first real success of this movement did not come until the Brown vs. Board of Education decision in 1954 which was followed by many boycotts and protests. The largest of these protests, the March on Washington, was held on August 28, 1963 â€Å"for jobs and freedom† (March on Washington 11). An incredible amount of preparation went into the event to accommodate the hundreds of thousands of people attending from around the nation and to deal with any potential incidents. According to the march organizers, the march would symbolize their demands of â€Å"the passage of the Kennedy Administration Civil Rights Legislation without compromise of filibuster,† integration of all public schools by the end of the year, a federal program to help the unemployed, and a Federal Fair Employment Act which would ban job discrimination (â€Å"The March on Washington† 11). In order for the march not to appear as a war of white versus black it had to be racially integrated so it looked like justice versus injustice. The march was originally going to be on Capitol Hill to influence congress, but because of a 1882 law against demonstrating there, they decided to march to the Lincoln Memorial and invite congress to meet them there, knowing that they would not. There have been many arguments where people suggest that marijuana should be legal because alcohol is more deadly. On the other hand, there are alcoholics who would tell a pothead that smoking weed is bad for you. Both substances are very bad for your health and should not be heavily used by anyone but we do need to be a little more piteous to the people that do drugs because you don’t know what they go through in life . Although, Marijuana has such a bad reputation Marijuana is one of the most common drug today and its also arrant. But what exactly is marijuana? Marijuana is a green, brown, or gray mixture of dried, shredded leaves, stems, seed, and flowers of the hemp plants. There are a lot of names for this drug and they are: pot, herb, weed, grass, boom, mary jane, gangster, or chronic. Marijuana has been around for many years and has been thought to be illegal and harmful. But marijuana has been used for medical reasons, including: medicine, hemp rope, crude cloth and enjoyment. Why do young people use marijuana? There are many reasons why they do that and most young people smoke marijuana because their friends or brothers and sisters use marijuana and pressure them to try it. others may think its cool to use marijuana because they hear songs about it and see it on TV and in movies. Some teens may feel they need marijuana and other drugs to help them escape from their problems at home, at school, or with friends. Alcohol is a drug that is classified as a central nervous system depressant. There are three forms of alcohol, beer, wine and distilled spirits. Alcohol is one of the most commonly used drugs in the United States and has more adverse effects that most other drugs combined. There are many aspects to consider when thinking about alcohol as a drug. There are many myths surrounding alcohol, including who uses it, what its effects are on users, social and sexual situations and the amounts people drink. The vast majority of the American population uses alcohol and in many various ways and this also causes different effects. Alcohol is also has a great causation in crimes committed by users, social, medical, and educational problems as a result of use as well. Marijuana and alcohol are similar in many ways because weed and alcohols seems to satisfy most teenagers in today’s world. Some of there similar effects are that they both make you very hungry and sleepy and they both make you escape from reality. When I say they both make you escape from reality I mean that most people drink in smoke because they are going through something and they just don’t want to think about it anymore and that’s how they escape from reality. If they were to get rid of marijuana and alcohol I think that would be very formidable. The Reign of Terror started in 1789 and was a time when supporters of the French Revolution ran wild and started killing non-supporters or counterrevolutionaries. The French held a ceremony if you will, in Paris for the execution of King Louis XVI on January 21, 1793. This was because Louis was having financial, and harvest issues. In June of 1789 King Louis called the Estates Meeting to discuss taxes and money problems. Then some men disliked what Louis was talking about so they stormed out and filed into a tennis court, and vowed not to leave until they created a new onstitution. On August 26 The Declaration of Rights of Man and Citizen was signed and put into action. Not everyone was in favor of this new constitution though. Neighboring countries and the catholic church disliked it because they feared a spread of a revolution and they lost power/property. To deal with their opposition of the Declaration of Rights of Man and Citizen they wanted to become more radical. They were led by chief-prosecutor Robespierre, who found King Louis XVI guilty of crimes against state/treason, and was executed (Doc A), therefore connecting all of hese events. Although it helped the government by getting rid of Louis WI, The Reign of Terror was unjustified because it took away freedom of speech, religion, and killed thousands of people. The Reign of Terror completely took away your freedom of speech if you werent for Robespierre and the French Revolution. When Robespierre took over and created the Committee of Public Safety, he laid down the law, and hard. Robespierre and the National Convention created watch committees in every neighborhood to expel any foreigners suspected of counterrevolutionary activities (Doc E). The whole purpose of this was to protect the public safety when really even if they were counterrevolutionaries they probably wouldnt speak out because they would get their head chopped off anyway. So if you were suspected, whether you were guilty or innocent, your head was violently chopped off in the town square. All of this happened because people opposed the new French Constitution and they wanted to be more radical. Since King Louis XVI and his wife Queen Marie Antoinette had their heads chopped off, there wasnt anybody to rule the country of France anyway (Doc F). The National Convention was so strict they killed 35,000 to 40,000 people (Doc E). These were people who spoke out or suspected of not being for the revolution. This was a completely different view than the French Constitution. The French Constitution wasnt radical in anyway and believed in natural right and law. During the Reign of Terror in 1793 a revolutionary campaign was set to launch against the Catholic Church. Sunday Worship, Christmas, and Easter were abolished (Doc C). They sent government officials in Auxerre, France to the Catholic church and take things away from it (Doc C). During this when the government officials took it out on a cart they ottered tor passers-by to spit on it. In this time peri od the ruler Robespierre was a pro-atheist. He enforced this the same way he did with anything else; with an iron fist and strict consequences if you didnt oblige. This contradicts the Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen and especially John Locke an English philosopher who believed in natural law and the right to defend life, health, and liberty. Locke believed in religious tolerance and Robespierre believes in being an atheist and if you didnt follow him, you dont deserve to live. This right that Robespierre took away struck the loudest uproar of anything else by far. People in the Vend? ©e region revolted against a military called lev? ©e en masse that sought to abolish Christianity in France (Doc C). An estimated 80,000 to 500,000 French people died on both sides (Doc C). Robespierre was responsible for all of these deaths by taking away the right of religion which is the right that most people demand and cant live without. The radical views of Robespierre cost thousands of peoples lives. He ordered the death of 45,000 to 50,000 throughout all of the Reign of Terror. In October 1793, Revolutionaries decided to reenact an example of counterrevolutionaries in Lyons. One day, revolutionaries destroyed 1600 homes and chopped off 12 heads Just in 5 minutes. Robespierre is sending his revolutionary followers basically Just to torture people and take away their rights. The people the revolutionaries were members of the aristocracy, priests, farmers, and townspeople especially. He killed them because he thought they werent in support of the French Revolution, they didnt support him, or they supported the Catholic Church. By August of 1793, people were fed up of Robespierre and his radical ways so they started revolting against him. 3,000 national guardsman were sent to establish order and peace in Niort, France (Doc D). Even this wasnt enough as a government official had to ask the National Convention for more troops and assistance in calming down the fired up counterrevolutionaries (Doc D). Finally in July of 1794 the French counterrevolutionaries got what they had wanted for over a year; Robespierre is xecuted, his policies are demolished, and the Reign of Terror ends (Doc A). Although it helped the government by getting rid of Louis WI, The Reign of Terror was unjustified because it took away freedom of speech, religion, and killed thousands of people. The Reign of Terror completely took away your freedom of speech if you werent for Robespierre and the French Revolution. If you spoke out as a counterrevolutionary or were merely suspected, well you no longer had a head. During the time under Robespierre the revolutionaries set out to launch an attack against the Catholic Church. They demolished Sunday Worship, Christmas, and Easter. If you supported Christianity you were guillotined. Government official came into churches and took their things and allowed people passing by to spit on them. Also the radical views of Robespierre took away many peoples lives. Innocent people, and people Just fghting for their natural rights such as religion, and liberty. He was responsible for at least 100,000 deaths whether they were directly or indirectly. The Reign of Terror isnt Justified in any way when it causes many people to revolt and get killed for fighting for natural rights.

This unit grades upward and has a scoured bottom. This unit consists of mostly calcirudite and shale layers with occasional siltstone overlying the calcirudite. There are nine cycles present in this unit. There are skeletal debris as well as burrows present in these layers. These rocks are carbonate-rich as well. The siltstone suggests a low energy environment of deposition, but the burrows tell of slightly more energetic conditions. Unit two represents the Sequatchie Formation. There are thin beds of calcareous siltstone that range in thickness from 1 to 1. There are fossil remnants here as well. The siltstone is rippled and cross-beds are present. Some red shales are present, which may hint to us a beach was present at that particular time of deposition. This will account for the green as well as the red rocks and also the thin-bedded ripples present. Unit three represents the Sequatchie Formation as well.
